Agyemang led Charlotte to a 3-2 win over Toronto

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Patrick Agyemang scored in the 85th minute to help Charlotte FC beat Toronto FC 3-2 on Saturday night.

Agyemang scored his second goal of the season and third of his career on a pass from Brecht Dejaeger. Agyemang has made five starts and 19 appearances over two seasons for Charlotte (3-3-2), extending his home unbeaten streak to 13 games last season.

Charlotte took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute and Kerwin Vargas fired a right-footed shot from outside the box into the bottom left corner of the net off an assist from Enzo Copti. It was the first goal for Vargas this season and the first for Copetti, who had six goals and two assists as a rookie last year.

Toronto (3-4-1) took the lead early in the second half as Prince Owusu scored from close range with his left foot in the 49th minute. Assisted by Federico Bernardeschi. Owusu, who joined Deandre Kerr in the 46th minute, made three starts and made six appearances last season. He played in four games this season and made eight appearances.

Charlotte took a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute when defenseman Jaylin Lindsey set up the first career goal of 22-year-old Liel Abada, who was making his second and third of the game.

Ousu's third goal of the season and career tied the game in the 78th minute. Toronto lost defender Kevin Long to a red card in the eighth minute of regulation to end the game.

Kristijan Kalina finished 3-0-1 at home this season with three saves. Kalina made two saves to keep Toronto off the scoreboard in the first half.

Sean Johnson stopped two shots for Toronto, which falls to 3-2-1 all-time against Charlotte.

Toronto beat Charlotte and first-year coach Dean Smith 1-0 at home in their first season under John Herdman in their third game of the season. The only goal in the victory was scored by Lorenzo Insigne, but the injury prevented him from the rematch.

Toronto returns home to play the New England Revolution on Saturday. Charlotte hosts Minnesota United on Sunday.
