A lone-car crash driver led to a drug fight

On April 10, 2024 at approximately 8:10 a.m. Headingley RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 3 near Brunkild, Manitoba. A vehicle that ended up in the northwest ditch was being towed away when officers arrived. According to estimates, the collision happened around 1:00 am.

During the investigation, it turned out that the man who was driving the car was disabled. A woman was found asleep in the back seat of the car. A search was conducted after police officers found illegal cigarettes on the driver. The search yielded crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency.

A 43-year-old male driver from Steinbach and a 21-year-old female from RM Ste. Anna was arrested at the scene. Both were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Officers used authorized drug screening equipment on the driver, who tested positive for cocaine. Additional charges are expected.

Both suspects were released pending further court appearances. Finally, he lost his driver's license as part of the ongoing investigation.
