Winnipeggers now have access to the links and city-run courses are open

City-owned golf courses open in Winnipeg for the first time in 2024, with golfers ready to hit the links.

“I think it's really cool. We're really excited,” said Connor, who enjoyed a day on the golf course. “We have a good group and this is the first day of gold. So that's good.”

Windsor Park and other courses in the city opened 15 days earlier than last year as the city experienced continuous weather.

“I think within 20 minutes, both here and Kildonan were booked (from the start of the day) until 1 or 2 p.m.,” said Dave Comasky, golf operations coordinator for the city. “People are eager to play golf.”

Comaskey said the game is growing in popularity now.

“I've been in the golf business for 25 years and there have been peaks and valleys. I would suggest that we have now reached the peak.'

Nearly 107,000 rounds of golf were played at the city's 12 courses last year, a 29 percent increase over 2022.

The city raised the greens on all four courses by a couple of bucks this year. A spring rate for 18 holes at Windsor Park will set you back $41.

“Inflation and the cost of fuel and the cost of labor and all of that is a factor,” Comaskey said. “But we've been very conscious of what we're going to charge, and we've been able to maintain a couple of dollars of growth every year.”

Those looking to take a breather can book an appointment online or by calling professional shops.

Spring rates are valid until April 26.
