Toronto officer stabbed on city's west side, suspect shot: police

TORONTO – Ontario's police watchdog says he invoked his mandate and sent investigators after a Toronto police officer was stabbed and a suspect was shot on the city's west side.

The Special Investigations Unit, which handles cases involving the serious injury or death of a police officer, says its investigators are on the scene and more information will be released late Friday.

According to Toronto police, X, formerly known as Twitter, said the incident happened in the area of ​​College Street and Lansdowne Avenue around 1:30 p.m.

They say both the officer and the suspect are in stable condition at the hospital.

The Toronto Police Association says in a social media post that the officer's injuries are not life-threatening and that he is being supported by the union and his colleagues.

Pictures from the scene show yellow tape and police cars surrounding the area with a Tim Hortons.

Roads are closed in the area as the investigation continues.
