Ten people have been charged in the $3 million robbery at a West Island jewelry store

Ten people believed to be involved in the robbery of a West Island jewelry store were arrested Thursday morning with $3 million in stolen goods, Montreal police said.

The robbery happened between Wednesday night and Thursday morning at the mall.

The alleged perpetrators – eight men and two women between the ages of 19 and 38 – were arrested in Pointe-Claire at 1 a.m. Thursday after the robbery.

At the time of the arrest, the group had a safe, jewelry and other items belonging to the target business. The total cost was about $3 million, police said.

Police said they found burglary tools in the suspects' vehicles.

The 10 people face multiple charges, including breaking and entering, theft, conspiracy and possession of burglary tools. They remained in custody.

Police said they believe the 10 men have links to South American theft gangs. Members of this criminal network, which operates in several countries, travel to commit organized theft.
