Quebec Weather: Heavy rain, flooding conditions north of Montreal

Quebec's Department of Public Safety is reporting “major” flooding in a river north of Montreal today after heavy rain on Thursday and Friday.

At 9:15 a.m., the department noted a flow of more than 266 cubic meters per second in the Rivière du Nord River in St. Jerome, about 50 kilometers northwest of downtown Montreal.

That's up from Wednesday afternoon's flow of about 64 cubic meters per second.

Public safety officials say there is “moderate” flooding in three other rivers in the province and minor flooding around six other water level monitoring stations.

The municipality of Chertsey, 45 kilometers north of St Jerome, said heavy rain yesterday washed out part of the road and submerged two vehicles in a local stream.

Officials were initially unable to locate one person after the incident, but later found them safe, according to the city.
