Manoah, Jansen to pitch for Bisons Saturday; Swanson, Romano pitches in relief

TORONTO — Alec Manoa's comeback from injury continues Saturday when he starts against the Toronto Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, N.Y.

Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen will be behind the plate for the Buffalo Bisons, as will Markham's Eric Swanson and Jordan Romano.

All four players began the season on Toronto's injured list.

Manoa was placed on the 15-day injured list during spring training with shoulder soreness and inflammation.

Jansen was on IL for 10 days when he suffered a small fracture of the pistil bone at the base of his right wrist when he was hit by a batter on March 13.

Romano was placed on the 15-day IL on March 28 with right elbow inflammation.

Swanson came out with a right hand cramp.

Manoah will start in the first game of a day-night doubleheader between the Bisons and the Rochester Red Wings, part of the Washington Nationals.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Manoa will have a 70-pitch limit. He said the ideal scenario would be for Manoa to go five innings while Swanson and Romano complete a seven-inning game.

Jansen will play two games over the weekend for the Bisons.

Manoa will begin a grueling recovery against Dunedin on Sunday. He walked his first four batters and allowed seven runs over 1 2/3 innings.

Despite the numbers, Manoa said he was happy with the trip because his shoulder felt healthy.
