Man charged in Henderson Highway robbery – Winnipeg Free Press

A man faces more than 20 charges in connection with multiple store robberies on Henderson Highway this week.

The masked suspect was armed with a knife or threatened staff with a knife and demanded money and cigarettes. The robbery happened on Sunday and Tuesday.

The victim in the first incident — at a gas bar in the 900 block of Henderson about 6:30 p.m. Sunday — was stabbed and suffered “critical” injuries, police said Friday. The suspect fled on foot with the merchandise. The victim, a 20-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in an unstable condition and is in a stable condition.

All other events took place on Tuesday. A robber fled with merchandise from a store in the 1300 block at about 6 a.m. and a store in the 1800 block at 9:15 a.m. Five minutes later, the suspect attempted to rob a fast food restaurant in the 1700 block, but nothing was taken.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the suspect attempted to rob a gas station restaurant in the 1900 block. The employee tried to hold the door closed to prevent the robber from entering, but the man pushed past him and fled with the cash. About an hour later, the man robbed the same store in the 1800 block that had been targeted earlier that morning and made off with cash.

The robber then ran into the parking lot of a grocery store in the 1700 block, confronted a man in his 20s, demanded his property and tried to punch him.

A cruiser patrolling the area saw the altercation. One man fled and was apprehended after a short chase. He was taken to the hospital for suspected methamphetamine intoxication.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault and 21 weapons-related offences. He was imprisoned in a temporary detention facility.
