Lane Hutson will get his chance with the Montreal Canadiens this season

“Frozen Four” is now in the national championship. Denver hosts Boston College at the Xcel Energy Center for all the marbles. It also saw the seasons of Michigan and Boston University come to an end.

With both of these schools on the decline, it means that several high-end NHL prospects could transfer to their team. On Friday afternoon, we had our first big domino fall as BU's Lane Hutson agreed to terms with the team that drafted him in the Montreal Canadiens.

Hutson has been one of the best defenders in the country this season. He is known for his superior offense despite his smaller than average frame. He should go with the Montreal Canadiens and immediately become their most productive defenseman (offensively).

He may struggle with the defensive side of the game like many youngsters, but even though he's 28 years old, that's not his main focus.

The Habs drafted him and eventually signed him to bring a lot of skill out of the backfield. His development on the actual defensive side of the puck would be the cherry on top.

This season with BU, Hutson has 49 points, 15 goals and 34 assists in 38 games. With his ability to score goals and help set them up, he was one of the best offensive defensemen in college hockey. That should help him in the NHL.

Now that he's signed with the Canadiens, the question is when will he make his NHL debut? The Habs will face the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night and square off with the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.

They then close out the season with a home opener against the Red Wings in the second half of a home-and-home series. Now that he's officially signed, only time will tell how many games Lane will play with his NHL club.

It's been a quick turnaround for a college player to step into the NHL right after losing the big game, but now the focus is on being a good pro. If he reaches his peak in the best league in the world, the Habs can do great things.
