Hutson ELC, Potential Impact, Canadiens Lottery Odds

Here's some Montreal Canadiens news, highlights and misses from Friday.

Montreal Canadiens News

  • It's official, top prospect Lane Hutson has signed an entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens. Hutson was kicked out of the Frozen Four during the Boston University Terriers' recent 2-1 loss to the Denver Pioneers. His contract begins this season, serving as a reward for signing an early deal with the team that drafted him. (Top Canadiens prospect Lane Hutson has signed an entry-level contract)
  • Hutson is expected to join the team in Detroit, making his NHL debut against the Red Wings as they face the Canadiens in back-to-back games to finish the 2023-24 season. Head coach Martin St. Louis is likely to bring Hutson into the lineup as the 20-year-old has had a breakout year. Once Hutson gets comfortable, he will have a chance to be a game-changer for the Habs. Hutson's presence on the powerplay could benefit Juraj Slafkovksi in particular. • With just three games remaining, the team's draft lottery chances are still undecided. Saturday's game between the Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators will go a long way in deciding where the two teams will draft in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. • Both Hutson and fellow Canadian Jacob Fowler were named to the NCAA All-American All-Star team.
  • The Michigan native will wear #48, at least for now.
  • The NHL is preparing to confirm that Montreal will be one of two upcoming host cities 4 Nations Faceoff tournament.

  • New Jersey Devils star Seamus Casey can now sign his first NHL contract. Casey's NCAA season ended last night when No. 1 seed Boston College defeated Michigan 4-0 in a Frozen Four semifinal matchup. (New Jersey Devils)

  • Ever since Patrick Roy retired, it's become an annual tradition to question whether or not the Colorado Avalanche are strong enough on the line to win the Stanley Cup. Even a guy like Darcy Kuemper, coming off a Vezina-caliber 2022 regular season in which he won 37 games and posted a .921 save percentage, couldn't convince everyone that he was good enough to get the job done. • Forgive Spencer Stestney if her holidays still need work. When the Nashville Predators rookie scored a crucial third-period goal that helped his team clinch a playoff berth in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, Stestny barely moved as Roman Josi and Kiefer Sherwood congratulated him. hug (Nashville Predators)
