High winds leave thousands without power across Ontario

TORONTO – Thousands of Ontario residents are without power this morning as strong winds batter much of the province, according to Hydro One.

The electricity distributor says about 23,000 customers were without power in the morning.

According to Hydro One, crews are working hard to respond to outages caused by wind damage that knocked down trees and branches on distribution lines.

Outages are mostly concentrated in southwestern Ontario, where there are many pockets of small outages.

Hydro One says the highest winds are coming from the shores of Lake Huron and the Georgian Bay, and northeast Ontario.

It warns that many customers may lose power throughout the day due to sustained winds.
