Calgary Surge head coach Nelson Terroba has resigned

The Calgary Surge will head into their second season in town without a head coach, at least for now.

Head coach Nelson Therroba announced he will step down from Canada's elite basketball team on April 12 after accepting a position closer to where his family lives in his home state of Texas.

Terroba leads the Surge in a successful first season where the team finished first in the CEBL Western Conference Finals and finished second in the CEBL Championship in their final match against the Scarborough Shooting Stars.

“Nelson was instrumental in our successful first season. While this is a bittersweet moment for our organization, we can't wait to see what he does in the next chapter of his career,” said General Manager Shane James.

The Calgary Surge, in a press release announcing Terroba's resignation, expressed their appreciation for his contributions to basketball and the Calgary community during his time in the city.

“The organization wishes Coach Terroba nothing but the best in this new endeavor. “It was very special to work with him,” they said.

The team said it will announce a new head coach in the coming days.
