Brossard shoots man outside gym; the victim was reported to be affiliated with the Hells Angels

BROSSARD — Glasses and a baseball cap were among personal items strewn on the ground Wednesday after an afternoon shooting outside a Brossard gym.

A man was shot in the parking lot outside the World Gym on Taschereau Ave. West of the 10 Freeway. At 11:30 a.m., 911 received a call of a shooting.

Police on Wednesday evening confirmed the victim's identity as Roger Bishop, 49, a former Hells Angels associate.

He was shot at least once and taken to hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead a few hours later by Surete du Quebec officers who took over the investigation from Longueuil police.

SQ spokeswoman Ingrid Asselin said on Wednesday police were investigating links between the attack and organized crime. He also noted that a burnt-out car was found nearby on Rue Thierry. Investigators are investigating whether there is a connection between the two crimes.

Police set up a large perimeter in the mall's parking lot, meaning about 100 vehicles were off limits to motorists as police and a K-9 unit searched the scene.

Investigators met with witnesses and local merchants and appealed for help from any other witnesses.

SQ asks anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity or criminal activity to call 1-800-659-4264.
