Beauty Bungalow at Bison Run – Winnipeg Free Press

Over the past five years, building lots in new communities in the city have been narrowed to reduce costs and increase housing density.

A by-product of this trend is fewer bungalows being built within city limits.

Hence, when people want to build a bungalow, their hands are forced by the narrow city lots and they have no choice but to build outside the city, where the wider lots easily accommodate the larger width of the bungalow.

Designed in a tighter space, the spacious and stylish Luciana is an urban bungalow.

That being said, Foxridge Homes' design team has come up with a bungalow design that fits smaller city lots, says Lisa Lawrence, sales representative for Foxridge's new bungalow show home at 2 Siddiqui Ridge in Bison Run.

“This house, called Luciana, was designed to fit into a narrow lot, in this case 46 feet wide,” he says of the 1,739-square-foot home. “We built this model at Bison Run, and we also built it at Sage Creek.”

He adds that Luciana's appearance is very deceiving.

“When they look at a house from the outside, most people think it's a very small bungalow. When they walk in, they'll be amazed by all the space.”

Above all, the original appearance of the main living area is a revelation.

The moment you take the final step through the sunken foyer into the kitchen, you're greeted by a spacious, open concept area that feels anything but small.

“It's a clean, bright, fresh and inviting area that flows beautifully from space to space,” says Lawrence. “The island kitchen is one of my favorite places in the house. It is large and comes with a 10-foot by four-foot island and plenty of cabinet and counter space. There's tons of storage on the side wall, plus extra coffee.”

Then there is the dining room which is perfectly positioned between the stunning kitchen and family room.

“Everyone notices the tray ceiling that defines it as soon as they walk in,” he notes. “This pendant espresso is stunning with its wood finish and interior lighting. Wood paneling connects to an espresso wood panel wall above a linear electric fireplace in the family room, which is set into a beautiful brown/bronze metal plate with tindal stone trim below.

If there's one key to the great appeal of a main living area, it's its overall color scheme, says Lawrence.

Color contrast abounds in the kitchen/diner of this large Bison Run bungalow.

“Most of the colors are light – pale laminate flooring, white soft-close cabinets, rust-colored quartz countertops, and white walls. The darker tones used on the island, entertainment unit and tray ceiling really pop against the lighter color scheme, creating a great sense of contrast.

Luciana's user-friendly floor plan continues to the left of the kitchen and dining room as a neatly designed bedroom wing.

Double-sided in design, it features a hallway that begins on the left side with a luxurious four-piece bathroom and ends beautifully with two large second bedrooms.

The master bedroom was then placed at the end of a six-foot corridor to the right to give it a wonderful sense of isolation.

“I love the bedroom,” says Lawrence. “It's large and bright, with the bed set in a cantilevered niche with a textured brown and rust wall that contrasts beautifully with the blonde laminate flooring. And the luxury suite is a stunning space with a tiled shower cubicle, travertine-style floor and a deep soaking tub with a bronze metal plate background.

Finally, there is a lower level of the house, accessed via a staircase leading from the sunken foyer, which is also functional.

“An off-door gives access to the double garage that everyone will love, which is no surprise given that it's dry, insulated and heated. It also comes with high quality epoxy flooring and has plenty of workshop space.”
