A Cougar Ridge house fire is under investigation

At least two dogs have died after a house fire in Cougar Ridge, southwest of Calgary.

At 10:40 a.m., the Calgary Fire Department was called to a home on Cougarstone Cove SW.

Firefighters found flames coming from an air vent near the house.

Although the home owners were not home, several pets were inside the home at the time of the fire.

“Unfortunately, two of the three dogs and seven chinchillas died as a result of the fire,” officials said. “One surviving dog was transported by the Calgary Fire Department to a veterinary clinic for emergency treatment. Both turtles survived.”

Officials say the main and second floors of the home sustained significant damage.

It is believed to have started in the kitchen.

Firefighters say the home has a smoke alarm.
