21 charges are pending for several recent thefts

Winnipeg police have charged a 22-year-old man in connection with multiple robberies on April 7 and 9.

Over the course of two days, officers received several reports of commercial robberies at gas stations and convenience stores along Henderson Highway, police said.

In several incidents, masked suspects armed with knives threatened employees and demanded money and cigarettes.

Chronology of events:

  • April 7 at a gas bar in the 900 block of Henderson Hwy around 6:30 p.m. During the robbery, the employee was stabbed, and the suspect got away with the merchandise and fled on foot. The condition of the 20-year-old victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
  • On April 9th, around 6:00 a.m., merchandise was stolen from a convenience store in the 1300 block of Henderson Hwy.
  • On April 9, around 9:15 a.m., merchandise was stolen from a convenience store in the 1800 block of Henderson Huey.
  • Nothing was stolen at a fast food restaurant in the 1700 block of Henderson Hwy on April 9 around 9:20 a.m.
  • April 9 around 9:30 a.m. at a gas station restaurant in the 1900 block of Henderson Hwy. The employee tried to hold the door shut to prevent entry, but the suspect overpowered him and fled with money.
  • On April 9, around 10:30 p.m., a store in the 1800 block of Henderson Hwy (which had been robbed earlier that morning) was robbed of money.
  • After the last robbery, the defendant ran into the parking lot of a grocery store in the 1700 block of Henderson Hwy, where he encountered a man, demanded his property, punched him, and attempted to rob him.

Officers searching the area observed the last listed incident and arrested the suspect after a short foot chase.

The man was taken to the hospital, where it is believed he was under the influence of methamphetamine.

Aaron Braden Beaupre, 22, has since been charged with robbery, aggravated assault and 21 counts of weapons offenses.
