10 people have been charged with robbing a jewelry store in Montreal's West Island

The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) announced that 10 people have been charged in connection with the robbery of a West Island jewelry store on Wednesday night (April 10). Eight men and two women aged between 19 and 38 are believed to be involved in a South American robbery ring.

Police say they arrested the suspects around 1 a.m. on April 11 in Pointe-Claire, shortly after the robbery.

It was reported that when they were arrested, they tried to flee the scene in three vehicles.

The SPVM said they seized a safe, jewelry and several other items worth about $3 million belonging to the store. Additionally, the vehicles contained jamming and burglary tools, which officers explained helped them break into the Fairview Pointe-Claire Mall and the store itself.

All 10 suspects were charged with breaking and entering, theft, conspiracy and possession of robbery instruments. The suspects are in custody.

“Information collected by the investigative team shows that there is a connection with the suspects Thief gangs of South America (SATG). Members of this criminal network, which operates in several countries, travel to commit organized theft. SATGs are monitored by various police organizations and border services,” SPVM explains in a press release.

Police are asking anyone with more information about this incident to call 911 or their local police department. You can also contact Info-Crime Montréal anonymously and confidentially at 514 393-1133 or via the report form available at infocrimemontreal.ca.
