Winnipeg police have arrested two suspects in an attempted carjacking

Police have made an arrest after two people were injured, one of them seniors, in an attempted carjacking near a busy Winnipeg mall earlier this week.

Winnipeg police said they were called to the incident on April 9 at around 5:20 p.m. in the 700 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway, near the Winnipeg Outlet Collection.

Police found a female suspect trying to flee the parking lot. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and found that two suspects approached a parked car, pushed a 52-year-old woman out of the car and physically assaulted her, police said.

Before the incident, both suspects approached a 77-year-old man who was sitting in his car in a nearby parking lot on the same block, according to investigators. One of the suspects demanded his personal property and attacked him. They also tried to get him out of his car.

During the attack, the second suspect got into the car on the passenger side and was looking for things to steal.

Both victims suffered minor injuries and neither car was stolen, officials said.

Officers later identified a juvenile female as the second suspect and took her into custody without incident in the 1700 block of Taylor Avenue.

A 32-year-old Winnipeg woman and a 15-year-old woman have been charged with two counts of robbery.

They were released on bond.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
