Toronto Weather: Up to 45mm of rain is expected

A special weather statement has been issued for Toronto, where up to 45 millimeters of rain could fall on Friday morning.

Environment Canada issued a warning for heavy rain in the city Thursday afternoon and ahead of thunderstorms later this evening.

“Rain has lashed the area and will continue tonight. The threat of thunderstorms will remain from this afternoon to tonight,” the Federal Meteorological Agency said in a statement.

Officials are warning that 50 mm of rain is possible in areas affected by the thunderstorm, which could lead to flash floods and waterlogging on roads.

Precipitation is expected to taper off Friday morning. However, northwesterly winds could gust up to 80 km/h Friday afternoon and overnight.

After Friday, CP24 meteorologist Bill Coulter said the weekend will be cool and windy after Saturday morning's rain. A few afternoon showers are possible on Sunday, and next week will be warm and sunny.

“On Monday, there will be some clouds, light winds will blow from the southeast, rising to 17 degrees. Tuesday brings morning sunshine. But expect rain in the evening and the temperature will rise to 14 degrees,” he said.

Rain is expected on Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 17 degrees.
