The University of Calgary is one of the best in the world in both disciplines

The University of Calgary is receiving top marks from a global ranking company after being included in its annual list of the world's best universities.

QS World University Rankings has released its 2024 rankings by subject, and the University of Calgary has been ranked among the top 10 universities in Canada in many subjects.

Some major international schools, including Harvard and Cambridge, topped most of these lists, but Canadian schools also made their mark.

This year, the QS World University Rankings highlighted 55 different subjects across five subject categories: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences and social sciences, and management.

1,559 institutions were included in the ranking and the University of Calgary consistently scored in the 10th percentile.

The most prominent subjects for the UofC were life sciences and medicine, with the university ranking #113 in the world and #7 in Canada. The larger category includes nine individual disciplines such as medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine.

Close behind in engineering and technology, Calgary is #153 worldwide and #7 in Canada. The category covers eight individual subjects, from engineering to computer science.

The lowest Calgary scores in five broad categories were Social Sciences and Management at No. 217 and Arts and Humanities at No. 210.

The University of Calgary has earned some bragging rights, but faces stiff competition in Canada. The University of Toronto came in first in every category, with the University of British Columbia and McGill closely behind.
