The City of Calgary announces that street sweeping has begun on Monday, April 15th

Tis the season for street sweeping, as the city's annual spring cleaning program begins on Monday, April 15. Starting today, those in the first scheduled communities will see signs indicating the date of the sweep. Residential street sweeping will continue Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Calgarians can also find a scheduled sweep day by visiting calgary.ca/sweep, where they can use our address search. We also encourage all Calgarians to sign up for email and text notification reminders.

“Spring cleaning helps reduce litter entering waterways and keeps our neighborhoods safe and clean for everyone,” said Adam Pawlak, director of mobility planning and operations. “The success of the program is a collaboration between The City and Calgarians. Before the sweep, look for signs in your community or call 3-1-1, or you can choose to sign up for email and text alerts at calgary.ca/sweep.

“Thank you for taking the cars off the street during the parking ban to help us complete this important work. It's also a good time to remind property owners that if you have a previous collection, please park your black, green and blue carts on your lawn or grassy boulevard on sweep day.”

Calgary Parking also plays an important role in the success of the program. Camera-equipped vehicles help enforce temporary sweep bans, but parking enforcement enforces these bans by checking community signs are clear and visible to residents in advance.

“A good tip to avoid a ticket is to keep your car off the road during prohibited times, as street sweepers will come by multiple times,” says Todd Sullivan, Calgary Park Patrol supervisor and investigator. “We coordinate deployment with Mobility to ensure our cameras and sweepers work as closely as possible.”

Residential street sweeping is expected to continue until June 2024. The city offers back lanes (providing adequate spaces), driveways and garages as alternative parking spaces. For more information, visit this site calgary.ca/sweep.
