Selkirk RCMP seized more than six kilograms of cocaine, $250,000

During police raids in Selkirk and Winnipeg on April 4, more than six kilograms of cocaine, destined for the Selkirk and Brokenhead Ojibway Nation communities, were seized, along with more than a quarter of a million in cash, RCMP said.

Police searched a residence in Selkirk, a hotel room in Winnipeg and two vehicles as part of the project.

Ont. A 41-year-old man from Petersburg and a 33-year-old woman from Wasaga Beach, Ont., were charged with possession and sale of illegally obtained property, and two men from Brokenhead were charged. A 33-year-old and a 39-year-old Ojibway Nation man were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. All were arrested.

“Getting drugs off our streets is critical to maintaining public health and safety, reducing crime rates and preventing drug abuse among vulnerable populations,” said Supt. John Duff, Manitoba RCMP Eastern District Commander, said in a statement.

Brokenhead Ojibway Nation Chief Gordon Bluesy said the results show the importance of working collaboratively with the RCMP.

“Drugs continue to affect our community and these results are a step in the right direction to address the problem. “Our leadership is committed to making the community a safer place,” he said in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing.
