Last home game for the Leafs, first weekend at home for the Jays

This weekend will be your last chance to catch regular season action for the Toronto Maple Leafs as the Blue Jays begin their series on the first weekend of the season.

Remember, the Gardiner Expressway is closing and there are some closures on the Barrie and Stouffville GO lines this weekend, so give yourself some extra time if you're heading into town.

A weekend of firsts and more for Toronto sports

Toronto Maple Leafs: The team plays its final game of the season this Saturday night against the Detroit Red Wings at Scotiabank Arena. Watch Auston Matthews reach 70 goals at 7:00 p.m

Toronto Blue Jays: The team will face the Colorado Rockies on Friday night to begin their first home series of the weekend. First pitch starts at 19:07 Saturday and Sunday games 2 and 3 start at 15:07 and 13:07 respectively.

2024 Grand Slam of Curling: The best in curling will compete this weekend in the 31st running of the Princess Curling Championship with the top 12 men's teams and top 12 women's teams from around the world. It will be held at the Mattamy Athletic Center. Tickets are available now.

Artist project

This year, more than 200 independent artists will show their original works Artist project, taking place at the Better Living Center on the Fairgrounds. They join collectors, curators, gallerists and designers to support the next generation of Canadian artists.

It kicks off with a late-night preview opening on Thursday from 6pm to 10pm and will be open from 12pm to 8pm on Friday and Saturday and from 12pm to 6pm on Sunday.

TIFF Next Wave Film Festival

The TIFF Next Wave Film Festival returns this year with new films and kicks off with the Battle of the Points, where four up-and-coming groups compete for the prize. Attendees can connect with filmmakers for advice and inspiration at the Young Creators Collaborative Lab at TIFF Lightbox.

There will also be a preview of the highly anticipated film Cuckoo. Movies are free for those 25 and under. Tickets are available Here.

TTC/GO will be closed

TTC service updates

There will be no Metro service on Line 2 between St George's and Woodbine stations on 13 April and 14 April due to roadworks. Shuttle buses will operate.

GO Transit

There will be no GO Train service on the Barrie line between Rutherford GO and Union Station on April 13th and 14th due to signal amplification. GO trains run on a reduced schedule between Rutherford GO and Allandale Waterfront GO, and GO buses run between Aurora GO and Rutherford GO to the 407 bus station. From there, customers are advised to transfer to TTC Line 1.

There will also be no GO trains running on the Stouffville line on April 13th and 14th due to construction. GO buses will replace train service on the Stouffville line.

GO buses will be available at Old Elm, Stouffville, Mount Joy, Markham, Centennial, Unionville GO and the Union Station bus terminal. Agincourt, Milliken and Kennedy GO stations will not have GO Transit service.

The city continues to be closed

  • One eastbound and one westbound lane on the Gardiner Expressway will be closed between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue. Eastbound lanes of Lake Shore Boulevard at Jason Avenue will also be closed. The closure is expected to last until mid-2027.
  • O'Connor Drive will be reduced to one lane between Bermondsey and Sandra by the summer of 2024 for road resurfacing, sewer and water mains.
  • The intersection of Yonge and Bloor will be reduced to one lane by 2025 to accommodate a condominium development and sewer installation.
  • University Avenue will be reduced to one lane in both directions between College Street and Queen Street West for the next few months to complete several infrastructure projects.
  • Queen Street is completely closed to traffic between Bay and Victoria Streets for work on the new Ontario Line subway station. The closure is scheduled to last at least four and a half years until 2027.
  • Northbound Yonge Street was reduced to one lane between Wellington and King streets for TTC construction. The project is planned to continue until 2024.
  • Both northbound lanes of Yonge Street from King Street to Wellington Street are closed for TTC construction until September 30, 2024.
  • Finch Avenue West is reduced to one lane in both directions from Dufferin to Wilmington until October 2024 for sewer installation.
  • Eglinton Avenue West is down one lane east of Islington and west of Scarlett Road for tunneling work related to the multi-year Eglinton Crosstown West Extension project.
