Élections Québec plans to launch a pilot project for online voting in 2025

MONTREAL – Quebec's electoral agency has canceled a pilot project to test online voting during the 2025 municipal elections.

Éelections Québec said in a statement today that the companies that responded to tenders to build the infrastructure failed to meet the required requirements.

The head of the organization, Jean-Francois Blanchet, says that the pilot project has always been a prerequisite for having a reliable, safe and affordable solution.

The agency wanted to allow about 300,000 voters in 21 municipalities to vote online during the 2025 municipal elections.

Élections Quebec's goal was to make participation in the electoral process easier, while preserving traditional paper ballots.

The agency said it would consider launching another pilot for online voting during the 2029 municipal elections.
