David Cronenberg is among the Canadians having a world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival

David Cronenberg is among the Canadians heading to the 77th Cannes Film Festival next month.

Organizers on Thursday announced the full lineup of Cronenberg's “Quebren” among 19 films vying for the Palme d'Or at the festival, which runs from May 14 to 25 in southern France.

Starring Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce, the Torontonian horror film tells the story of a prominent businessman who invents a controversial technology that helps people connect with their dead loved ones.

Also heading to Cannes is Rumours, a Canadian co-production by Evan Johnson, Galen Johnson and Guy Maddin.

The dark comedy stars Cate Blanchett and follows several world leaders who get lost in the woods trying to make a joint statement at the G7. The film will not compete for the festival prize.

Paul Schrader's Oh Canada, which is in competition, tells the story of Leonard Fyfe, a famous American left-wing documentarian who fled to Canada to avoid being drafted into the Vietnam War.

Other films debuting in competition include Ali Abbasi's The Apprentice, about the early days of former US President Donald Trump, and Jacques Audiard's musical thriller Emilia Perez, starring Selena Gomez, about a Mexican cartel leader who undergoes gender reassignment surgery.
