Banff Moxy The Voyager Inn to reopen after redevelopment

A historic hotel in Banff is open to the public after a $30 million renovation.

Built in 1964, The Voyager Inn on Banff Avenue was the city's first commercial motor inn.

It has now been redeveloped by the Moxy Hotels Group in association with Canalta Hotels to become the Moxy Banff.

Moxy Hotels, part of Marriott's Bonvoy portfolio, says the renovated facility pays homage to the historic architecture and roots of the community.

“Preserving the bones of Moxie's predecessor has ensured that the Banff staple remains part of the city's landscape and allowed the renewal to be purposeful and sustainable while preserving an important part of Banff's history and architectural heritage,” said Thursday's news release.

“From double beds that turn two rooms into one, bunk beds, kitchenettes or rooms with enclosed suites, there's something for every travel experience,” it says.

Visitors can also visit Bar Moxy, a food truck in a fully restored 1966 Volkswagen van.

Calgary artist Kirsten Bollen was commissioned to design a circular mid-century mountain landscape in the lobby, while Edmonton artist Tanya Klimp created large-scale abstract murals that feature on the hotel's two grand staircases.

“The redevelopment of this property is an opportunity for us to invest in Alberta, specifically the city of Banff,” said Brooke Christianson, Vice President of Canalta Hotels.

“Our team is proud to work with talented Albertans to create new economic opportunities for our province and great guest experiences.”
