12 great things to do in Calgary this weekend: April 12-14

It's going to be a beautiful, sunny weekend in Calgary, with double-digit highs in the forecast. If you're looking for ways to enjoy the weather, there are plenty of fun things to do!

From a large toy exhibit to birding at one of the city's favorite local parks, you'll find something to look forward to. It's also the last weekend to check out the huge interactive exhibit that has Calgarians in awe.

Calgary Toy Show

What: The annual Calgary Toy Show is back and it's the biggest yet! There will be 83 tables full of collectible toys to choose from.

When: April 13, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m

Open house job fair

What: If you're looking for a new job, this major job fair at Standard General might be the perfect place to start your search!

When: April 13 from 10:00 to 14:00

Price: FREE, but applicants must be over 18 and able to drive

Eid al-Fitr in Winsport

What: WinSport is having a big Eid al-Adha celebration this weekend! To mark the end of the month of Ramadan, there will be traditional delicacies and bright cultural performances.

There's Hood in Heritage Park

What: Each week a different car will be on display so visitors can see the engines of some great vintage cars!

DIY nail art workshop

What: If getting your nails done is expensive, this workshop will give you the tools you need to get creative on your own!

See the exhibition at the “Esker” fund

What: The Esker Foundation is one of the city's favorite public art galleries, and for good reason. It's a vibrant center for creativity, and this week you can see Juan Ortiz-Apuy's Tropicana, a visual and sensory film with a deep and meaningful message.

Baby days in the palace

What: If you can't bring the animals, but want to get up close and personal with them, you won't want to miss the Spring Animal Festival at Butterfield Acres!

Birds of St. Patrick's Island

What: It's early spring, it's time for birding! You can see anything from bald eagles, merlins, common mergansers, nuthatches and woodpeckers to Canada geese! This excursion will give you a good introduction to this “wild” pastime.

Reverse movie at Fort Calgary

What: Fort Calgary is showing two great movies this weekend in its vintage-inspired theater. Saturday, you can catch Gooniesand Space James will play on Sunday. Tickets are very reasonably priced and include popcorn!

Chinook center mirror mirror

What: This is the last weekend to check out this interactive art exhibit taking over the old Nordstrom building in Chinook. Mirror Mirror is an experience that Moment Factory describes as “a playground of immersive art that takes you into a world that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy.” It is a delight for all the senses, being an installation that “brings together scenography, light, words, original music and interactivity to create a surreal and sensory playground of immersive art that reconnects us to our imagination.”

We checked it out ourselves and were blown away! Each individual room is a visual delight guaranteed to make the perfect photo backdrop.

When: It lasts until April 14

Da Vinci Exhibition at Telus Spark

What: Da Vinci fans won't want to miss this incredible exhibit at Telus Spark. The event says guests will have the opportunity to “experiment with da Vinci's advanced understanding of science, mathematics and nature through themed galleries showcasing his designs, from helicopters to visual city plans.”

When: Now until May 5

Roller skating at the Skate House

What: Finally, Calgary has a roller rink with a disco ball! If you're looking to get laid and have fun this weekend, this is the place to do it.
