Toronto police are trying to identify suspects after elderly couple lost $13,000 in fraud

Toronto police hope newly released images will help identify two suspects accused of defrauding an elderly couple out of $13,000.

The victims received a call on January 20 from someone who identified himself as a police officer.

The scammer told them that their credit cards were being used by fraudsters and that they should turn the credit cards over to the police. The couple were told that a courier would be sent to their home immediately to pick up the cards and collect the PINs.

Couriers came to their homes and the victims gave them the cards.

The cards were then used, racking up a $13,000 bill.

The first suspect is described as a male with a heavy build and medium dark hair. He was wearing a black baseball cap with the Toronto Raptors logo on the front, a black and gray Nike sweater, gray track pants, a brown coat and gray cushion-style slippers with white socks.

The second suspect is described as a thin woman with long black hair. He was wearing a gray pullover sweater with a hood and gray sweatpants.

Police believe the number of victims could be higher.

Anyone with information can call police at 416-808-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
