Toronto Hydro contractors injured on the job

Toronto Fire Services was dispatched to Lake Shore Boulevard and Don Road just before 1 a.m. Saturday. It was reported that a utility crew was working in a concrete warehouse used to bury electrical wires.

Capt. Dan Vieira said there was a “light haze” of smoke coming from the underground storage facility. However, there was no fire and nothing had to be extinguished.

Emergency personnel transported one person to a local trauma center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A second person was taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to The Canadian Press, published in The Globe and Mail.

The Ontario Ministry of Labor has appointed an investigator to look into the incident.

“Our thoughts are with the individuals and their families, and our focus is on ensuring the safety of crews and the public,” Harris said in a Toronto Hydro statement.
