A good night's rest will be available to more Manitobans thanks to a new partnership program that will recruit and train doctors specializing in sleep disorders.

While sleep disorder education has long been part of the University of Manitoba's Max Rady College of Medicine, the university's respirology department is now accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, allowing it to offer subspecialty certification. sleep medicine.

The fellowship offers this certification and accepts one physician each year.

The U of M is one of six universities in the country with the accreditation — and hopefully a means of recruiting doctors to practice in Manitoba, said Dr. Nancy Porhaunik, a sleep specialist.
