Police have questioned a man of interest in the death of a woman near Montreal

Quebec provincial police on Wednesday questioned a 30-year-old man of interest after the death of a 27-year-old woman in southwest Montreal.

The woman who died was identified as Josianna Faucher, a source told CTV News. He was found in a house on rue Toulouse near Candiac just before noon on Tuesday.

A woman who identified herself as Faucher's mother wrote on her Facebook page that her daughter had died. “She was our little girl, she didn't deserve to leave us so young,” wrote Pierret Chalifou Faucher on social media.

Police theorize that she may have been murdered after investigators found signs of abuse on her body, though an autopsy is required to determine the cause of death. No charges have been filed.

City police were first called to the home by someone concerned about the woman's health.

The Sûreté du Quebec's violent crimes unit is leading the investigation, which is ongoing.
