Police are questioning a man of interest in the death of a woman near Montreal

CANDIAC, Que. — Quebec provincial police say they are becoming increasingly confident that a woman in her 20s who was found dead in a southwest Montreal apartment was the victim of a homicide.

Spokesman Louis-Philippe Ruel said a man in his 30s has been described as a person of interest and that investigators are responding.

He said police are working on a homicide theory today as they continue to investigate the scene in Canada.

Local police were called to an apartment building on the outskirts of town by someone who was concerned about a woman's safety.

Police said her body showed signs of violence, but an autopsy will be needed before a cause of death can be confirmed.

The Violent Crimes Unit of the Quebec Provincial Police has taken over the investigation.
