Muslims in Montreal are celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadan

Eid al-Fitr is an opportunity for members of the Muslim community to come together and celebrate the end of Ramadan.

Muslim Montrealers celebrated at the Canadian Institute of Islamic Civilization (CIIC) mosque on Belmont Street.

“Engaging in good deeds, fasting, praying at night, worshiping God. This is a blessed month and when we finish the month, we will celebrate our achievements, achievements and deeds by worshiping Allah Ta'ala,” said Ahmed Abdelwahab, who attended the gathering.

“That's why it's an important moment for us to observe Eid-ul-Fitr together with the old community and all societies. It is a mosaic of cultures.”

Since participant Reem Ahmed immigrated to Canada, the celebration has become a tradition at CIIC.

“I am from Egypt and since I came here, celebrating Eid among the Muslim community at CIIC has been a special day because I feel like I am at home with my family, friends and loved ones,” Ahmed said. . “I see everyone here and it makes Eid special for our children, just like Eid in Egypt. It's really unique and fun, and I love this Eid.”

This year, Eid al-Fitr was shortened in solidarity with the victims of the Israel-Hamas war, and the Eid sermon was dedicated to the suffering of those in Gaza.

“We could not celebrate like before. When we celebrate, we feel something is wrong,” said Iyad Abuhamed, director of CIIC.

“Our responsibility here is why we feel blessed to worship Allah Almighty and end the season of worship like Ramadan, to support our people in Gaza, to stand up for justice, to call for justice for them. and do our best to alleviate the pain, do our best to cure them, support them as much as we can.”
