Man arrested after woman dies of 'unknown complications': TPS

Toronto police are investigating after a woman was found dead in downtown Toronto early Sunday morning.

Shortly before noon, police were called to an apartment building near Harbord Street and Ossington Avenue in the Little Italy area of ​​Palmerston for reports of an unknown problem.

“On arrival, police arrived at the station and found a man and a woman,” Toronto Police Service (TPS) duty inspector Maher Abdel-Malik told media at the scene.

“The woman was pronounced dead and the man was taken into custody.”

Initially, police officers said they found the woman with “signs of serious injuries.”

“There is no threat to public safety and other people are not considered exceptional at this time,” Abdel-Malik added.

“The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.”

Abdel-Malik said police believe the man and woman knew each other, but have not yet determined to what extent.

No other information about the victim or the suspect was released.

The TPS homicide unit has been notified, but has not yet formally opened an investigation, Abdel-Malik said.
