Ice Chips: Joel Edmundson (undisclosed) of the Toronto Maple Leafs is poised to return

Linebacker Joel Edmundson said he's ready to return after a March 24 interception against the Carolina Hurricanes that caused him to miss the last eight games.

Acquired from the Washington Capitals on March 7 before the draft deadline, Edmundson had one goal and five assists in 44 games with the Caps and skated in seven games with Toronto.

Quarterback Ilya Lyubushkin is also back, along with Conor Timmins and Jake McCabe, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Keefe says it's to take care of McCabe, who has bumps and bruises.

Up front, Connor Dewar will line up with Noah Gregor as a healthy scratch.

Goaltender Ilya Samsonov will play tonight against the New Jersey Devils.

Samsonov, 27, 23-6-7, .895 save percentage and 3.00 goals-against average.

Defenseman Timothy Liljegren was on the ice for an extra skate, his first with the team since an upper-body injury.

He missed the last seven games with TSN's Mark Masters last week not expected to return until the final two games of the regular season.


New York Islanders

According to Newsday's Andrew Gross, Semyon Varlamov was the first to take the ice and is expected to start tonight at home against the Montreal Canadiens.

Varlamov, 35, is 12-8-4 in 26 appearances this season with a .917 save percentage and a 2.69 GAA.

In defense, Sebastian Aho and Robert Bortuzzo started.
