Elderly Toronto couple defrauded of $13,000; two suspects are being sought

Toronto police are searching for suspects who tricked an elderly couple out of tens of thousands of dollars by pretending to be police officers.

According to police, the couple received a call on the evening of January 20 from someone claiming to be a police officer.

The alleged cops told the couple their credit cards had been used fraudulently and needed to be transferred.

“The suspects further stated that a courier would be dispatched immediately to retrieve the credit cards and credit card PIN,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

When the couriers arrived at their home, the couple handed over their cards, which were later used to pay about $13,000, police said.

Investigators have released photos of the suspects and are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating them.
