In a press release issued Wednesday, Toronto police said the alleged victims, an elderly couple, received a call at 8 p.m. on Jan. 20 from someone posing as a police officer.

Police said the couple had been notified of fraudulent use of their credit cards and should turn their cards over to police. The caller also said a courier would be dispatched immediately to collect the credit cards and card PIN.

The couple handed over their credit cards to couriers who came to their residence, and the cards were then used to charge about $13,000.

The first suspect is described as a heavy-set man with a full beard and medium-dark “stream style” hair. He was wearing a black baseball cap with the Toronto Raptors logo on the front, a black and gray Nike sweater, gray track pants, a brown coat and gray cushion-style slippers with white socks.

Police believe there could be more victims.
