Coventry Hills apartment fire sends man to hospital

One person is in the hospital after a fire in a four-story apartment complex forced dozens of residents from their homes on Wednesday night.

Firefighters were dispatched to the building at Country Village Park in Coventry Hills after the alarm was raised at around 11.15pm.

By the time firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the second-floor unit.

Once inside, firefighters found a man in his 30s with severe burns in his bedroom. He was transported to the hospital by EMS.

All 60 units of the building had to be evacuated as crews were working to extinguish the fire.

According to the fire department, the unit where the fire started was heavily damaged by smoke and water. The unit below it has water damage and the units next to it have minor smoke damage.

Residents in undamaged units have since been allowed to return.

Fire crews are expected to be at the building Thursday morning as investigators work to determine the cause.
