City looks at mosquito control options – Winnipeg Free Press

The City of Winnipeg is exploring three mosquito control options because it can no longer afford its current fogging agent, DeltaGard.

On Wednesday, the council's public services committee ordered a staff report on options for expanding the city's larvicide program, finding alternatives to traditional fogging and working with experts on DeltaGard alternatives.

The report is expected to be released in about six months.

The decision follows a city report warning that DeltaGard will no longer be sold in Canada and that Winnipeg's current stock will last another two to four years.

He notes that a viable replacement isn't available right now and could take years to find.
