Carshare service Turo expands to Vancouver and Calgary airports

Starting this week, Touro has established car sharing locations at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Calgary International Airport (YYC), leveraging its peer-to-peer car sharing service to improve accessibility and convenience.

At both airports, Turo guests will have access to their vehicles upon arrival based on the newly added option to park in YVR Park, as well as YYC's over-elevated public parking, economy parking, and P1 and P2 parks. .

According to Touro, the partnership is the first of its kind at both airports, allowing guests to remotely check their car reservations within minutes of leaving the terminal building.

“Our partnerships with major international airports in Canada reflect the continued momentum of car sharing and further enhance the Turo experience for guests and hosts. Arrival of travelers Vancouver and Calgary they'll have an amazing experience where they can skip the rental car counter altogether, jump into their reserved car and be on their way as soon as possible,” he said. Cedric MathieuSenior Vice President and Head Touro Canada said in a statement.

“It's also a great opportunity for local hosts who can turn their vehicles into additional income while providing a five-star experience for all their flying guests.”

Instead of owning their own fleet, Touro depends on car owners, known as “hosts,” to loan their lightly used vehicles to the company. Instead, car owners can earn some extra income by parking their cars to become a host.

Because Turo's fleet relies on private vehicles owned by individuals, the service is able to offer a wide range of unique vehicles – everything from economy options to luxury vehicles. Guests can choose a specific make and model of the vehicle, and add extras such as bike racks or child car seats.

The San Francisco-based company, often referred to as the car-sharing services Airbnb, has grown significantly in recent years.

It first expanded into Canada in 2016, immediately establishing operations in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. After receiving ICBC approval in 2020, it launched in British Columbia. According to the company, it now has hundreds of thousands of active guests using tens of thousands of vehicles listed in its eight provinces.
