A meeting of swans in Scarborough Park

The “magical romance” of a pair of swans who reunited in Scarborough Park days later was captured in heartwarming video last week.

On April 1, a volunteer with the Toronto Wildlife Center (TWC) spotted one of the trumpeter swans in Bluffer Park with blood on its feathers.

TWC said its rescue team responded and pulled the swan from the edge of the bank with its head tucked under its wing.

As the swan swam toward a shallow bay area, a wildlife rescuer netted it to take it to medical treatment, TWC said.

After an examination, the medical team found a cut on its beak, which healed well after cleaning and treatment, according to TWC.

A few days after the recent incident, she was ready to reunite with her husband.

In a video released last Friday, the rescued swan appears to search for its mate for several minutes before breaking free and running towards him. The happy swans flap their wings together.

“It was like a magical romantic moment from the movies,” said a TWC volunteer who called the rescue and witnessed the encounter.

“It was so beautiful, I've never seen anything like it in 12 years!”
