A man is in hospital after a fight in downtown Montreal

An altercation between two men in downtown Montreal left one of them injured and hospitalized.

The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) received a 911 call at 3:30 a.m. Thursday about an altercation on the sidewalk on St. Catherine Street near St. Marc Street.

“When police arrived at the scene, they found a 41-year-old man who was unconscious and had sustained injuries to his lower body with an unknown object,” Montreal police spokeswoman Caroline Chevrefils said. “He was taken to hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening.”

A 32-year-old man was arrested nearby.

He is expected to meet with investigators later in the day.

“There was an argument between the victim and the suspect, and the suspect allegedly injured the victim,” Chevrefils said.

He says both men have criminal records and know each other.
