A food critic leaves a $3,000 tip at a Toronto restaurant

Keith Lee has toured several restaurants in the GTA and his presence has been enough to drum up business for local eateries.

This can be attributed to his 16.1 million followers on TikTok, which often leads to the “Keith Lee effect” that helps the establishment's success.

“It's helped our business a lot.”

Lee called his two-day culinary tour the “FamiLee Food Tour,” touring four different food spots at The Six.

He tried a few slices at Afro Pizza and tried their mac and cheese.

“A little more sauce and it's going to be really hot,” he said of the fusion, which he ultimately scored an 8.5 out of 10.

Lee also left a $3,000 tip and another $1,000 for Afro Pizza to hand out free slices for the rest of the night.

“After he left, we gave people free pizza for three hours,” Best said.

Next up was Biscuits to Baskets, a small chocolate shop housed in a courtyard barn in a quiet Ajax neighborhood that had many new customers thanks to Lee's visit.

“This is the most Canadian thing I've ever done,” Lee, who doesn't have a sweet tooth, said in his TikTok video while holding a box of bread.

He gave their Korean sponge latte an eight out of 10, and also raved about their customer service, which Lee called “the best” he's ever seen.

“It means a lot to our family,” said Victoria Fliegel, manager of Cookies to Baskets.

“We're all shocked, very shocked, but excited to see what happens.”

Lee also visited Sisters & Co, which serves Asian fusion brunch and brunch and has two locations: one in Scarborough and its newest location in Markham.

He gave the Eggs Benny a 7.7, praising its simplicity and high-quality ingredients.

Eventually, Lee checked out Old Nassau at 2047 Weston Rd., where he had his first taste of Bahamian food.

While she didn't like the makeup and cheese “pie,” watching her eyes roll back to her head, she satisfied herself with the whole snapper and rice and banana pancakes with guava butter, scoring a 9.6.
