According to Dominica News Online, the state is opposing bail requests by Lehrer and co-accused Robert Snyder Jr., who are in a Dominica state prison. The consideration of Lerer's request was postponed until April 15.

Langlois and Marchand were on the Caribbean island when they disappeared in late November. Later, their bodies were found on the road in their car, charred beyond recognition.

The couple was shot dead before they were set on fire.

As previously reported, police have named four suspects — Lehrer, Snyder Jr., a foreign national and a local man — because of a years-long dispute over a public road crossing property owned by Lehrer.

Jonathan's wife, Victoria Lehrer, was also charged but later released.

The dispute began when Lehrer blocked the only road leading to the Langlois plantation.

Langlois sued and asked for a permanent injunction against Lehrer and his company from trespassing on the Morne-Rouge public road, and by 2019 the road's public status was upheld, allowing Langlois and guests unrestricted access.

Lerer said Toronto Star Through his attorneys, he said he could not comment on the allegations or how he plans to respond because the investigation is ongoing.

Lehrer's wife has hired public relations firm PRIME PR to contact the media and correct “false information,” said the firm's president, Nicola Wiles.

“There's talk that Jonathan might be violent because he's so angry about losing a traffic lawsuit, and that's not true at all,” Wiles said, noting that Langlois' lawsuit is still pending.
