Toronto, GTA get up to 40mm of rain, Texas less on the way

A high of 18 degrees is expected on Wednesday before rain sets in to soak the GTA. Meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai has your seven-day forecast.

Summer temperatures and sunny skies earlier this week will be put on hold as a low in Texas brings a very strong event to southern Ontario, with up to 40 millimeters of rain in Toronto.

A low-pressure weather event will arrive in southern Ontario early Thursday morning, bringing rain to the province through Friday.

Much of southern Ontario is expected to receive 30 to 50 mm of rain, with areas in northeastern Ontario including Timmins, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie can expect 50-75 mm. The heaviest rainfall will occur in Windsor and London, Ont.

Rain is forecast to begin in Toronto at 4 a.m. Thursday and continue through the day. Rain will increase around 8pm, with 3mm per hour expected by midnight.

Short-term forecast details


It will ease by 2 a.m. Friday, with temperatures expected to drop to about 8 degrees Friday morning and an afternoon high of 9 degrees. Thunderstorms are also possible in some parts of the GTA, creating the risk of localized flooding. to the worst affected areas.

For now, weather wise, try to enjoy what Wednesday has to offer. By noon, the sun will break through the clouds, and Toronto's daytime high will reach 16 degrees.
