Andriy Kuzmenko scored the game-winner in OT as the Calgary Flames ended their skid with a win over the San Jose Sharks.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Andriy Kuzmenko scored a power-play goal with 2:58 left in overtime and the Calgary Flames beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Kuzmenko has scored for the Flames, who have lost three straight and eight of nine games. Rasmus Andersson and Nazem Kadri also scored for Calgary, which converted two of its three power-play chances.

“We're scoring goals and they're important goals in hockey games,” Kadri said. “I think as a group we try to energize our group.

“When things aren't going too well, we hold each other accountable. I think that's important. When you play with confidence, it's a lot smoother.”

William Eklund and Jacob MacDonald scored for San Jose.

The bottom-placed Sharks have dropped four of five. If Chicago wins at St. Louis on Wednesday, San Jose will tie for the worst record in the NHL and have a 25.5 percent chance of winning the top pick in the draft lottery.

“We just cheated the game,” Sharks coach David Quinn said. “I thought in the second and third game we wanted it to be easy. Instead of approaching the game in an honest and proper way, we hoped that everything would happen.

“I thought we were lucky we got overtime.”

Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf made 20 saves against his hometown team. The 22-year-old Gilroy native had family, including his grandmother, who saw him play in the NHL for the first time.

“Coming from a small town and playing against your hometown team is something you dream about and it's pretty cool,” Wolff said.

Calgary coach Ryan Huska said the Flames knew it was an important night for the Wolves.

“I thought he did a good job when he had to make some saves,” Huska said. “He looked calm and composed.”

Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 38 shots for the Sharks.

Eklund put the Sharks up 1-0 after one period with a putback goal off a Fabian Zetterlund header. Eklund, who scored a hat trick on Saturday, has scored in 10 of his last 11 home games.

MacDonald scored early in the second minute to double San Jose's lead, but Calgary responded with goals from Andersson and Kadri to tie the game at three.

Kadri said the Flames had a “below-average first period.”

“The next 40 (minutes) we dominated,” he said. “I think we deserved it.”

Sharks forward Filip Zadina missed the game with a lower body injury.
