Winnipeg police: Bus passenger stabbed by racial slur

A 20-year-old man is recovering after he was stabbed by a man who shouted racial slurs on a Winnipeg transit bus Tuesday night.

Winnipeg police say officers were called to the Osborne Bus Rapid Transit Station for a report of a man who had been stabbed.

Officers applied a chest seal to the victim, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. It was later upgraded to stable condition.

“In the early stages of the investigation, another man on the bus said racial slurs and the victim was threatened and physically assaulted. The bus was stopped and both got out,” the police wrote in a press release.

The suspect fled before police arrived.

Police are looking for a thin white man in his 20s and 30s. No photo provided.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219.
