Toronto will see a blast of winter weather this week

After dry, seasonable weather in Toronto, significant snow is expected Thursday.

A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for the city and the rest of the Greater Toronto Area as Environment Canada predicts 5 to 10 centimeters of snow.

“The snow is expected to start on Thursday morning. “Snow will reduce to lake effect by Thursday evening, especially in areas north and west of the GTA,” it said.

Winds from the northwest, with gusts up to 70 km/h, are also expected to move in late Thursday.

“Travel can be hazardous due to sudden changes in weather,” Environment Canada said, adding that motorists should expect reduced visibility. “Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.”

The Federal Weather Service says Toronto will have an afternoon high of -1 degrees on Thursday.

Friday will be a mix of sun and clouds with a low of 0 C and a 30% chance of showers.

Sunny weather is expected to continue this weekend, with highs of -4C on Saturday and 1C on Sunday.

Toronto has seen unusually warm weather this winter, even breaking a temperature record last week when temperatures soared above 15 degrees on Friday.
