The Winnipeg Jets are gearing up to take on the rested San Jose Sharks

It's been a few days since the Winnipeg Jets ended their losing streak with a 2-1 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

However, they didn't last as long as their next opponent, the San Jose Sharks, who last played on January 31st – beating Anaheim 3-2.

“Yeah, it's rare, of course,” Jets head coach Rick Bowness said at the team's morning skate.

“I was talking to Thomas Hertl at the All-Star break and the first time he said, 'We're not going to play for two weeks until we see you.' So they know about it.”

Although the Sharks are well rested, Bowness stressed that his team needs to focus on their game.

“We just have to come out and get after them right away. We want to put a lot of pressure on them right away. We want to make them defend, we want to put pressure on them on the ice.”

To back up that pressure, Bowness said Winnipeg needed to bury their chances early in the game and put the Sharks on their heels as quickly as possible.

Unlike the previous two meetings between these teams, both games ended in 2-1 finals, one for the Jets and the other for the Sharks.

“Their record might not look like it, but they're really good. They played very hard in the two games against us. I mean, they beat us, and then it was difficult, the second one. So they work very hard. , they have a very skilled young group. When they work hard, they're hard to play against and they play us tough,” Jets forward Cole Perfetti said.

Perfetti's line was also the subject of Wednesday's conversation. He was paired with Gabe Vilardi and newly hired center fielder Sean Monahan.

Monahan has had three pointless catches since the Jets acquired him from the Montreal Canadiens.

According to Perfetti, the trio is still working on building chemistry, but he believes they are close to breaking up.

“I don't think anyone expected it to be Picasso right away. I think it takes a few practices, a few games to get used to each other,” Perfetti said.

“There's a lot to like about this line, we've just got to click and I think the last two games we've just been there. We've done all the right intentions and all the right things, just the final execution of the play. It wasn't there.”

To help the chemistry process go a little faster, Bowness made sure Monahan's locker was set up next to Perfetti after he joined the team.

“They have to get to know each other. We need something from the secondary. So if they can sit together on the bench, in the locker room, even in practice, that's important,” Bowness said. “You have to build that chemistry, and it starts off the ice.”

Perfetti said he's spoken to Monahan several times and it's making the game easier for the pair.

“It's good to talk and talk with him before and after practice,” Perfetti said.

The streak will see if they can pick up their first points as the Sharks and Jets kick off at 6:30pm CT.
