The beloved Winona Earp is brought to life in a new film made in Alberta

First they brought Fargo back. Now, Wynonna EarpAnother beloved TV series set in and around Calgary is returning, albeit in a limited 90-minute movie version.

The announcement came via an article last week a fair of ambition Magazine featuring a Zoom interview with the show's cast and creator Emily Andras.

IATSE Local 212, which represents film and television groups in Alberta, announced the show's return on Instagram on Tuesday.

“@WynonaEarp, the beloved Syfy drama that ended its four-season run in 2021, will return later this year on @tubi with a scripted special called Wynona Earp: Vengenance,” the post read. “The 90-minute special was written by the show's creator and executive producer, Emily Andras.

The special stars Melanie Scrofato and other familiar faces from the original series, including Wynonna, Tim Rozon, Dom Proost-Chalkley and Katherine Barrell.

It will be directed by Paolo Bartzman, who directed many episodes during the first series, which “will begin filming in and around Wynonna Earp's former Calgary grounds and air in late 2024.”

When asked if there could be more Wynonna Earp Damian Petty, president of IATSE Local 212, on Calgary's future in terms of an additional serial order: “There is no indication of a possible serial order. Wynonna Earp that's all I know.”

“We're optimistic about greenlighting several projects for southern Alberta in the next few weeks,” he said of other series and/or film orders in the region.

A number of other shows filmed in Alberta including Fargo and We are the last Nominated for an Art Director Guild Award, producer John Peino won We are the last in the one-hour fantasy single-camera series.
